War and Baseball

Charlie had the day off after a morning conference call so we got to spend our last day in Seoul sightseeing together.  We spent some time at the Korean war memorial looking at old military vehicles and going through the museum.  This was probably the best museum I went to in Seoul.  It was very educational, easy navigate, and relatable for us.  I would recommend a visit to anyone coming to Seoul.  I realized I had never really learned about the Korean war in my history classes so I really enjoyed learning about this part of history.

Next we headed out to find the Yongsan Electronics Market.  We were expecting a flea market atmosphere like the other markets we visited but it turned out that the “market” was an area of town.  There were about a dozen buildings with multiple floors full of small electronics shops.  It wasn’t as much fun as we expected because most of the stores were only half full and it felt kind of abandoned.
After a late lunch we went to Lotte World.  Lotte is a huge company that has department stores, hotels, and entertainment venues.  We were hoping to walk around the Lotte Adventure Park but didn’t realize that it had admission costs like Disneyland.  We spent some time wandering around the Lotte Mart instead.
After shopping we headed to the Jamsil baseball stadium.  Baseball is a big deal in Korea and we had fun rooting for the home team with the crazy fans.  Each team has a DJ and cheerleaders who lead the crowd through insane cheers and music throughout the game.  We ended up sitting next to a couple from South Dakota and the little baby sitting in the row in front of us was fascinated by us for quite a while.

Our team didn’t do well but we had a good time watching the spectacle of coordinated crowd cheering and our first baseball cheerleaders with their many costume changes.
