I woke up early today and snuck out to get breakfast for the crew. I went to a little bakery about ten minutes away that our Airbnb host had recommended. I managed to buy croissants and another delicious looking pastry to share. On the walk back I picked up some other simple groceries to add to the table.
Everyone was up when I got home so we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at our little table looking out at the neighborhood.
We packed our day packs and headed out to explore. We started off at a gallery that we thought had a show about the history of the bikini – to our disappointment the show is opening tonight so we may go back tomorrow.
We wandered on down the street to our next planned destination – the Picasso museum. We spent a couple of hours there and went on croissant mission #2.
I had done some research before leaving home and was determined to try a croissant from Blu Sucre. We grabbed two to share along with a couple of other good looking treats and enjoyed them in a little park while watching a group of elementary students play a game with their teacher.
We hopped on the metro and traveled to Notre Dame. Once we arrived we found massive lines to enter the cathedral and to climb to the top. Looking at the line we agreed that our hunchback reenactment would have to wait until another day. We headed to a steak frite restaurant we had heard about only to find they were closed until much later that evening. We settled for a quick happy hour stop before heading back to our apartment to drink cheap wine and enjoy some snacks we found at the local mini mart.
A few hours and loads of laundry later we decided to find some real dinner. We tried to go to a restaurant recommended by our host – but we were only served a resounding “NO” when we told the man behind the bar that we didn’t have a “booking”. Luck was on our side though as we wandered around the corner and found a lovely little bistro called the three little pigs. They had a great menu for the evening and we each had an appetizer and dessert.
After dinner we walked up the hill to Basilique du Sacre Coeur to enjoy a walk through the church and the view of the fading light over the city. It is so nice to be somewhere the sun actually sets again.
We have one more day tomorrow in Paris and will hopefully check some things off our list.
