Koh Samui

We spent a total of three nights on Koh Samui. We put this long stop in the middle of our trip to try and force ourselves to relax. It worked- we spent three days sitting by the pool in the mornings and shopping or exploring in the afternoons. There is a lot of island to see bit we decided to focus on Chaweng this trip. One of the highlights was a “ladyboy” show. It was a fun little production and there was no cover charge. Most of the numbers were mini Vegas-style show numbers- not as much comedy as we are used to at drag shows. The highlight was the one performer who actually did a Whitney Houston number. She did a wonderful rendition of “I will always love you” while stumbling around and making subtle references to having just done drugs. It was bizarre, funny, and probably offended some people…

We also tried our only Thai Mexican place. It was a nice break from all things fish sauce but the imported chips were a bit stale and guacamole a bit mysterious.  In all it was probably one of the best Mexican restaurants  we have found in unlikely countries.

This was a beautiful island that was very tourist friendly. We were among few tourists from the USA- most were Australian, English or German. We plan to return some day.
