July 5 & 6: Days 7 & 8
We took an overnight trip to the Prometra Forest school where Laura has been working and studying weekly for the last year. Day one was spent with 16-18 people crammed into the land rover. We visited four groups of healers who have been learning from Prometra and have become leaders of their own groups. That evening we attempted to make a Mexican style dinner for the staff. Rice, beans, mango salsa, guacamole were all easy to produce – our scary version of corn tortillas were another thing entirely. We just couldn’t find the right flour to use and I was a bit heavy handed with the salt. People seemed to love it though and the s’mores we brought for dessert made up for any prior blunders.
The next day we spent visiting the forest school classes. The students all teach collaboratively and the Prometra staff act as facilitators. The students must progress through two beginning levels – including written and practical exams – before choosing a specialty. Most of the staff worked all day in classes, and then in a community clinic. We headed back to Laura’s very late and after a long and crowded ride in the land rover we all slept well.
