Hungarian Meows

Jet lag really caught up with me last night and though I stayed up until after midnight I was wide awake at 5:00. Charlie, on the other hand, was sleeping peacefully so I read my book for a couple of hours. We had a nice slow breakfast at the hotel buffet and then spent the remainder of the gray and rainy morning lounging in our room and going for a swim in the pool/spa located in our hotel. It was a nice break from the frantic pace of yesterday.

In the early afternoon we took the tram back to the central market to do a little more exploring and shopping. It was a bit more crowded today and between the bus loads of slowly meandering tourists, and the impatient locals, it was a little stressful. By this time I was getting hungry, and a little grouchy, so we dropped into the small cafeteria style restaurant in the market. I had a lovely little pot of goulash, bread and a beer and my mood was much improved.

We did a little more shopping and hopped back on the tram to head to the highly anticipated Budapest Cat Cafe! We shared some lovely desserts and spent the better part of an hour petting some of the happiest kitties I have ever seen. Several were just huge and all were so soft and pampered.

We went back to the hotel for a break, and then had a lovely Thai dinner in a little basement restaurant (I forgot to take a photo of the food but we clearly enjoyed it!).

Our last stop of the night was to grab a “chimney cake” to bring back to the room and enjoy with some supermarket wine.

It was a perfect slow day. Waking to the rain was a great excuse to take our time and enjoy some less touristy activities and just lounge about as much as we wanted.
