With only one day in Barcelona we wanted to see as much as possible. After breakfast we hopped on the big red bus tour and spent a couple of hours driving past the major sites. We hopped off at the last stop and walked about half an hour to the “Sagrada Familia” Barcelona’s world famous church. To our dismay tickets were sold out for the day and we weren’t able to go inside.
We turned our frowns upside down with ice cream and walked back to our hotel. It was a long hot walk and we decided to stop at the grocery store on our way. We bought some cheap (69 cents a liter) box wine and some snacks and had a little picnic in our room. The wine was horrible- you get what you pay for! We don’t have an opener so we took a risk…
We spent the afternoon enjoying the cool of our air conditioned room and had a long siesta. I worked on my scrapbook while the other two read, slept and watched videos. Kelly’s iPad has been a wonderful source of entertainment on this trip!
After our rest we went for a walk to find dinner. We happened upon a beautiful market and found dinner at a great place inside. We had razor clams (my mom’s are way better!) and two amazing pallelas. We were so happy we found that place- every pallela we saw others eating after that looked terrible compared to ours!
Catalan style with mixed shellfish and sausage.
After dinner we made our way down La Rambla- a long walking street through Barcelona towards the Mediterranean. We shared a Belgian waffle and noticed a loud festival happening a short walk away- to our delight we had wandered right into the Barcelona pride festival!
We spent some time there enjoying the people watching, mojitos, churros and drag queens. It was a lovely way to end our day.
