This morning we drove north to the Daintree Rainforest. Only accessible by small car ferry this beautiful spot was surprisingly deserted. The rainforest opens up on to an incredibly beautiful beach which we were the only ones walking on. We would have gone for a dip – maybe even a skinny dip… it is our honeymoon… but the giant jellyfish warning signs convinced us to keep everything but out toes out of the water. We saw the biggest spider web I have ever seen while walking the nature trail through the park and then ran back to the refuge of our car to escape the mosquitoes. We stopped on the way back to our hotel for homemade ice cream at a local stand and then spent the afternoon at the beach by our hotel. This time we braved the jellyfish net to swim in the warm water but didn’t stay in for long. After a long hot day, we decided to order Thai delivery. We got a second wind after dinner and walked downtown to participate in some “Cane Toad Races”. Ella taught me about cane toads, and we used to show this hilarious video in class about them. They are an invasive species that are quite poisonous. Danger be damned, Charlie took his birthday party noisemaker – the kind that rolls out – and tried to convince his frog to be the first one to hop off the table and into a bucket. Sadly, our frog was not easily motivated and we didn’t take home the cash prize. It was a great time though and something I am pretty sure we could only do in Australia.
