Australia Day 10

It was wine day today and we were treated like royalty.  The Australian authorities don’t take drinking and driving lightly so we decided to get crazy and hire a driver for the day.  Our town car picked us up in the morning and we headed to wine country.  We started the day at Seppeltsfield vineyards for a tour of their port making process.  I had never seen port barrels racked and aging so that was a very cool experience.

Our second stop of the day was at Two Hands winery.  The people at two hands were just amazing.  They took the time to really chat with us and once they discovered we were on our honeymoon they gave us some free hats and a few extra pours.  Their wines are spectacular and some of my all time favorites.  I love their labels too as they look like artsy old Polaroid photos.

It was time for a little break so our driver took us to a local deli where we picked up the fixings or a picnic lunch.  We enjoyed our sandwiches in a little local park nearby in the beautiful sunshine.  Our third stop of the day was scheduled right after lunch.  The Charles Melton winery has a lovely rustic little tasting room and some incredible reds.

Our final stop of the day as at Peter Lehmann.  Charlie had done his research and joined the email list before we headed south.  Upon arrival at the winery we were escorted into a beautiful private tasting room.  On the table were more glasses than I could count and a beautiful tray of local meats, cheeses, dried and fresh fruit, olives, and breads.  This was all complimentary and presented alongside a giant binder of wines that were available for tasting.  I honestly can’t remember how many wines we tasted at Peter Lehmann – it was our fourth winery of the day after all – but I was ready to move in permanently after such an amazing welcome.

The day was long and wonderful and we capped it off with a dinner of Argentinian steak at a restaurant near our hotel called Gauchos.  I am not sure how we managed to fit another meal in after our amazing day of food and drink but somehow we made it work.   It was early to bed again tonight as this cold is still getting me.
