Uganda – Food

Food!

We have only been here two days and we have tried so many new things.  We had a traditional meal of cassava, potato, pumpkin, rice and matoke – all covered in peanut sauce or curried peas.  It was delicious – but the matoke was very bland.  We added a little local hot sauce to the mix as well.

Day 2 we tried Ethiopian food for lunch, which was amazing.  After a trip through the food market and a visit to the school we had a small party at mom and Devyn’s room.  On the table is a bowl of popcorn, local beer, chipatti (kind of like an indian tortilla) fresh gooseberries, pineapple, jackfruit, and “blackberries” which tasted like bitter perfumed olives.  We had quite the discussion about the blackberries.  Laura re-fried up our lunch leftovers with a few tomatoes and we wrapped up the mess into the chipatti for some ethiopian/indian remixed burritos.  They were delicious.
