We have landed in Sydney for our long anticipated Honeymoon. We had a wonderful flight in business class and I was excited for my first experience “upstairs” in a 747. We were spoiled the entire trip, enjoyed several wonderful meals and movies and slept well. We took a bus to the Quay Grand Hotel in Sydney harbor. After a swim, we ended up finding lunch at “Lowenbrau at the Rocks” Leave it to us to find a German restaurant for our first meal in Austraila. After lunch, we found a grocery store and grabbed some snacks and then took a ride to the top of Sydney Tower. We returned to our hotel for happy hour on our deck with a view of the Harbor Bridge.
For dinner, we ventured to a restaurant that Charlie had heard about from friends. It was called “Phillips Foote” and we had the pleasure of grilling our own steaks on communal grills. It was a fun way to start a conversation with some locals. We ended our first night with a train ride to a bar called “The Sly Fox”. We thought we were going to a drag show but discovered we were actually at a fundraiser bingo night for the theater where the shows used to happen. We played a few hilarious rounds of “Bingay” as the announcer called it, and had a great time. I am not sure how we had the energy to do so much on our first day but I am sure the jet-lag will catch up soon.
