Today we headed out for a late brunch of street sushi at the fish market. We went back to the same guy as before- it was just too good to pass up. After sushi we wandered the market and got some fun stuff to bring home. Charlie picked up a sashimi knife and some real wasabi and I bought some fun dried fish snacks.
To continue the theme for the day we took a couple of subway rides to go to Kappabashi street. This street is the wholesale restaurant supply and plastic food street. We had a good time laughing at all the plastic food displays and found a few more kitchen tools we couldn’t live without.
We love the air conditioners on the subway platforms…
Then Mercer took us to the Tokyo American Club for margaritas and popcorn.
We grabbed a cab home and changed to go out to dinner. Mercer managed to get us reservations for the “Robot Restaurant” that we saw on TV. We entered the third-floor waiting area to be assaulted with more sparkle and bling than I have seen anywhere. There was a “robot” band playing/singing mellow American jazz music- it was quite surreal.
Once the doors opened we headed downstairs to the show floor. We assumed that since the restaurant was in the name that there would be food to order. We found out the hard way that we should have ordered bento boxes when buying our tickets- they weren’t included. We all decided that popcorn and beer would be fine and that we would go somewhere better after the show.
The show was fantastic. It was kind of a live action anime spectacular with robots, lights, lasers, drums, and sexy girls. There were some storylines woven in and they served beer in between acts. Overall it was a fun hour and a half.
After the show, we hopped in a taxi and went to an amazing yakiniku restaurant. Yakiniku is where you cook your own food on a tiny burner and are given tasty condiments on the side. We had the most delicious Kobe and Wagyu beef along with some pickled vegetables and grilled peppers.
With our bellies full we spent a few hours hanging out in nearby Roppongi enjoying the Tokyo nightlife.
