It seems like I am away from home on the 4th of July every year. Last year it was cheeseburgers in Tokyo with Mercer… This year it was all sorts of delicious food in Paris.
We woke at 4:00 to head to the airport for our flight. As a side note – 4:00 is way easier when the sun is always up. The Keflavik Airport is a mess. Looking back I should have had some breakfast because not only was the airport disorganized and crowded but I was “hangry”. My travel companions forgave me though and my mood greatly improved with a snack.
The airport was so bizarre – everyone had to check in at a kiosk and print their own boarding pass – and luggage tags. Now I have probably seen someone attach those long luggage stickers at least 100 times – but the four of us couldn’t figure it out. It was like one of those jokes “how many college educated middle school teachers does it take…”
After doing all of that we were told to get into this massive line for bag drop-off. It was silly.
We gave Ella hugs and said goodbye as she has to head home. We will miss her on our continuing adventure.
Our flight was uneventful and we landed in Paris. We were trying to find the train into town but ran into a bus first. The hour bus ride was pleasant and dropped us off near the Opera. A short cab ride brought us to our beautiful little apartment. We had a tour of the place by our host Michel and took some time to settle in and relax.
Tracy hasn’t been to Paris before so we wanted to mark a few things off our list. We took the metro to the Louvre and then walked to the Eiffel Tower, stopping at Rue Cler for dinner along the way.
We shared a crepe for dessert and then agreed that 4:00 AM was a long time ago and headed home for the night.
